Foundation for Florida’s Future’s Annual Report Card Highlights Legislative Commitment to Students, Families

Celebrating a legislative session that will transform education for families across our state, the Foundation for Florida’s Future today released the 2023 Florida Education Report Card, which grades legislators on their tireless efforts to improve student outcomes, opportunities and access to a quality education.

Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of the Foundation for Florida’s Future, issued the following statement on the annual report card.

“Florida’s 2023 legislative session brought notable changes for our state’s families, educators and children, building on more than two decades of student-centered policies that makes the Sunshine State the best place in the nation to learn and live.

“By expanding learning options to all Florida’s families, protecting teachers and ensuring that students receive the highest quality of reading and math education, we will ensure that each child has the opportunity to maximize their God-given talents to succeed in school, careers and life.

“Each Floridian can celebrate the bipartisan work this session that put students first. This collaborative effort will pay off for generations to come.”

For more than a decade, the Foundation for Florida’s Future’s annual Report Card highlights lawmakers who put aside political interests to build a brighter future for our state.

The Foundation for Florida’s Future graded lawmakers based on their support of student-centered education policies in 2023.” Out of 159 lawmakers, 133 received an A or a B.

The Foundation for Florida’s Future also announced its Honor Roll, which recognizes legislative champions who took bold or exceptional action to pass student-centered legislation aimed at improving the lives and educational results for Florida students and their families.

Grades are based on legislators’ voting records and demonstrations of leadership. House and Senate voting records are calculated on a ratio of favorable votes cast for student-centered policies out of the total opportunities to vote on those policies.

By grading lawmakers on a scale of A-F, just like students and schools, Florida’s Education Report Card gives the public a clear and comprehensive assessment of who is keeping the promise of a quality education for every student in the Sunshine State.
