Foundation for Florida’s Future’s Annual Report Card Recognizes Legislative Commitment to Students, Families

Celebrating this year’s legislative successes that build on education policies that are a model for the nation, the Foundation for Florida’s Future today released the 2024 Florida Education Report Card. This annual report grades legislators on their support and commitment for bold, innovative solutions to continue improving student outcomes, opportunities and access to a quality education.

Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of the Foundation for Florida’s Future, issued the following statement:

“Florida’s lawmakers embraced the continuing challenge of ensuring our state’s families, educators and children are prepared to succeed. Building on more than two decades of student-centered policies that have made our state a model for the nation, this year’s work will increase learning outcomes that prepare our children for success in school, work and life.

“Lawmakers tackled a wide range of policies—implementing smart limits on social media, reaffirming a commitment to school accountability and making critical improvements in early literacy and career pathways—to ensure Florida’s students will be prepared to maximize their unique talents to succeed in school, careers and life.

“The bipartisan work this year will ensure that each student, family and educator has the opportunity to succeed with new knowledge and experience that will benefit this generation and those to come.”

About the Annual Florida Report Cards

For more than a decade, the Foundation for Florida’s Future’s annual Report Card highlights lawmakers who put aside political interests to build a brighter future for our state.

The Foundation for Florida’s Future graded lawmakers based on their support of student-centered education policies in 2024. This year’s Report Card reflects the Senate’s votes on the anti-accountability and anti-school choice package, which the Foundation opposed. As a result, fewer lawmakers received As than in years past. Still, 95 out of 160 lawmakers received A grades.

The Foundation for Florida’s Future also announced its Honor Roll, which recognizes legislative champions who took bold or exceptional action to pass student-centered legislation aimed at improving the lives and educational results for Florida students and their families. This year’s Honor Roll includes 15 House members and 5 Senate members.

Grades are based on legislators’ voting records and demonstrations of leadership. House and Senate voting records are calculated on a ratio of favorable votes cast for student-centered policies out of the total opportunities to vote on those policies.

By grading lawmakers on a scale of A-F, just like students and schools, Florida’s Education Report Card gives the public a clear and comprehensive assessment of who is keeping the promise of a quality education for every student in the Sunshine State.
