The Foundation for Florida’s Future issued the following statement following the Florida State Board of Education’s selection of Anastasios Kamoutsas as Interim Commissioner of Education:
“We congratulate Anastasios Kamoutsas on his selection by the State Board of Education to serve as the next Commissioner of Education.
“The Foundation has worked with Commissioner Kamoutsas in his previous posts, including opposing the Florida’s Senate’s efforts the past two years to water down literacy, accountability and school choice policy, as well as to pass universal school choice in 2023. We look forward to continuing our work together.
“We additionally congratulate outgoing Commissioner Manny Diaz on his service to our state as Education Commissioner. Under his watch, Florida has further distinguished itself as the nation’s school choice leader. We look forward to his continued state service as Interim President of the University of West Florida.
“The Foundation will continue to advocate for strong, student-centered policies both before the legislature and with the Department of Education. We strive to redouble our literacy efforts, improve and expand our focus on math and maintain strong accountability that keeps the system honest and focused on outcomes.”
