Foundation for Florida’s Future Responds to Release of Florida’s 2023 School Letter Grades

Nathan Hoffman, Senior Legislative Director for the Foundation for Florida’s Future, issued the following statement on the release of Florida’s 2023 school letter grades.

“While Florida’s school letter grades effectively were frozen in place this year, this is an important reminder of the need to have standardized and transparent measures to gauge the effectiveness of our educational institutions.

“Due to the introduction of a new state test this year, officials will look at proficiency as the primary measure of the school’s success. Next year, grades will once again include learning gains because officials will have data to compare student growth against the prior testing year.

“School letter grades offer a clear snapshot of how well schools are meeting established academic standards, ensuring that parents, educators and policymakers are equipped with the information necessary to make informed decisions.

“These grades empower parents to make informed choices about their children’s education, encourage schools to strive for excellence and provide policymakers with invaluable insights to shape effective educational policies.”
