The Foundation for Florida’s Future responds to House passage of House Bill 949

Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of the Foundation for Florida’s Future, issued the following statement regarding passage of HB 949 by the Florida House of Representatives to expand phone-free policies during school time:

“Florida was the first state in the nation to act on the urgent need to create phone-free instructional time and reestablish distraction-free learning environments for our students and teachers.

“Now, Florida House leaders are going a step further with a proposal to make the entire school day phone-free and join a growing number of states that are enacting similar legislation to support students in deepening their learning, building relationships and strengthening engagement—inside and outside of the classroom.

“We are grateful to Rep. Demi Busatta for championing this important anti-distraction policy that will reclaim not only our school rooms but the health and well-being of our students. We look forward to the Senate’s swift approval of this proposal, which has broad, bipartisan support.”
