Statement from Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of the Foundation for Florida’s Future, on SB 1220, which was approved today by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.
“Students perform better when they are in a learning environment that best meets their needs. Increasing the number of Florida Empowerment Scholarships will give more families that opportunity. We appreciate the Senate’s work on this critical need.
“To help even more low- and middle-income families, we encourage the Senate to adopt measures currently proposed by the House, including raising the income eligibility over time to include more hardworking families and removing barriers for first and second grade students to participate in the program, without having to leave the school that is working for them to become eligible.”
