Statement from Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of the Foundation for Florida’s Future, on the House passing HB 7067 yesterday.
“This bill will provide incredible opportunities for many of Florida’s families and students. Every child deserves the chance to learn in the environment that best prepares them for success in school and in life. Lawmakers heard the demand for more learning options from families, and their action today will change lives.
“I want to thank Representative Jennifer Sullivan and House Speaker Jose Oliva for their leadership and strong support for Florida’s families.”
House Bill 7067, sponsored by Representative Jennifer Sullivan, R-Mount Dora, creates more opportunities for families to find the best educational fit for their child. Highlights of the bill, which will now be considered by the full Senate, are:
- Increases the number of scholarships by 1% of the annual public school enrollment annually for the Family Empowerment Scholarship Program (FES);
- Provides an automatic 25% increase in household income eligibility when more than 5% of total available FES scholarships have not been awarded;
- And allows students receiving a Florida Tax Credit Scholarship to remain in the program regardless of increase in household income.
