Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of the Foundation for Florida’s Future, released the following statement on today’s announcement by the Florida Senate on the 2019 legislative priorities.
“Senator Manny Diaz, Jr. is one of the strongest legislative champions for empowering families with educational choice. He is a hero with a heart for kids.
“For the past 20 years, hundreds of thousands of Florida families have benefited from public and private education options. Our public schools are stronger, student learning has consistently been on the rise, and families have benefited from being able to make more and more decisions on behalf of their children.
“It’s time for the Florida legislature to be bold and finally include hard-working, middle-income families in the scholarship programs that we know have benefited low-income families and students with special needs.
“It’s time for middle-class families to have the opportunity to participate in educational choice.
“We commend the Senate for prioritizing policies that support teacher development, reward results and improve public schools. We look forward to seeing the details.”
