Gov. Scott Signs HB 7069, Expands Opportunities for Students

Thursday, June 15, 2017

I am pleased to share with you that today Governor Rick Scott signed House Bill 7069, which will significantly improve the lives and educational outcomes for thousands of Florida students.

We've heard from many parents across the state who believe this comprehensive law will offer their children access to a quality education that prepares them for a successful future. With the signing of this law, Governor Scott demonstrated his commitment to empowering Florida's families and continued the state's long tradition of implementing student-centered education policy.

The law expands educational options for students by increasing funding for the Gardiner Scholarship Program, removing outdated barriers for part-time virtual education students, providing additional resources for traditional public schools and recruiting charter management organizations with proven track records of success in serving disadvantaged students.

The legislation also gives teachers more time to teach by moving statewide assessments to the end of the year and gives teachers access to assessment results. House Bill 7069 also designates bonuses for most teachers in the state and lifts caps on bonuses for those who successfully helped students earn college credit or industry certifications.

I hope you will join us in thanking Gov. Scott and legislative leaders, including President Joe NegronSpeaker Richard CorcoranSen. Anitere Flores, Sen. Kelli StargelSen. Aaron Bean, Sen. Dennis BaxleySen. David Simmons, Rep. Michael BilecaRep. Manny Diaz, Jr., Rep. Chris SprowlsRep. Jennifer SullivanRep. Jason Fischer and Rep.
